This page covers biological principles of identity construction.
Overview
- major concept of personality is existence of "I" within mind, identity, which is required for consciousness
- while mind contains many unique aggregated centers, identity belongs to consciousness, and therefore is a part of mind required for conscious state - neocortex and intercortical thalamus
- because thalamus is a complex transition center and cannot be origin of identity, real centers of identity are within neocortex
- identity is manyfold:
- body identity within insular cortex
- mental (habits and judgements) identity within orbitofrontal cortex
